Lego model of a Cyclone Class cruiser
About the model:
This model is largely based on the USS Firebolt, although some details like the crane towards the stern of the ship have been borrowed from other Cyclone class coastal patrol ships. It is comprised of almost 7500 pieces. The key features of Cyclone class patrol ships, including the boat launch, two MK38 Mod 4 25mm Naval guns, .50 caliber machine guns, and a MK208 Griffin SSM. The boat launch provided a ramp for Navy Seal teams to quickly deployed on a smaller boat, and can be seen better in the images at the bottom.
Design Process:
This model was designed entirely on Stud.io, a free Lego modeling software. The very first step I took was to decide the scale, ultimately landing on 1:35 because it would be in scale with Lego figures while maintaining a reasonable size. To ensure the model was in scale throughout the building process, I added three reference images for the side, front and top. I began by building up the hull, then adding the bridge, central tower, and the other details.
The model measures 60 inches long, 9 inches wide, and 25 inches tall. While it has not been built in real life, It was designed such that it could be.
