1:500 Scale lego models of the USS Gerald R. ford and uss normandy
About the uss Gerald r. FOrd:
This is a model of the USS Gerald R. Ford which measures around 18 inches long and is comprised of about 1500 pieces. It includes all three elevators that can be moved up and down, one fewer than its predecessor, Nimitz-class carriers. Its three Phalanx CIWS can be seen, along with one guided missile launching system seen towards the stern. The model was not designed with a specific scale, but it is around 1:500, with some parts being slightly out of proportion.
About the uss Normandy:
This model of the USS Normandy is much denser than the Gerald R. Ford, being made up of around 1000 pieces and measuring around 12 inches. It is slightly bigger than it should be compared to the Gerald R. Ford. It includes both MK 41 vertical launch systems and both 127 mm MK 48 Mod 4 canons.
Design Process:
Both of these models were simultaneously designed physically and online on Stud.io, a free Lego modeling software. While the bulk of the models were designed online, for some of the complex angles and connections, especially at the bow of both ships, I prototyped different techniques physically first. After the models were finished, I ordered all of the parts so that I could build them physically
